Like Moths to Flame by vhm-Alex Like Moths to Flame by vhm-Alex
like moths to flame I come, too close and all my oaths are burned
as stars begin to run, all my accusers take their turn
and calling curses down, from my lips lies like poison spill
and then that awful sound, the sound of prophecy fulfilled
and then I met your eyes, and I remember everything
and something in me dies, the night that I betrayed my king

Thrice - Like Moths to Flame

Wow. Wow wow wow. Well first off this is an incredible piece of work you've put together.

You've really managed to mesh all the colors together in a totally unique way, and have splashed things on to really have a meaningful impact on how they're portrayed.

At first glance it might seem as if all the lines and shapes are just a bunch of random things clumped together. And to some people, perhaps it might seem that way regardless of the quality and the meaning behind the work. But to me it all seems calculated without really calculating it, like a comedian who tells people jokes without really thinking about them or planning it ahead of time. It just happens, and in this case everything comes together without really having to think about it, it just does.

The colors used to me are probably the best part. They set up the piece to look as interesting as it can, its just the right mesh of bright & dark colors. With the way everything is presented, its definitely something open to interpretation for everyone viewing it, which is a great thing IMO. Those who like it could still get perhaps an overwhelming feeling reminiscent of negative memories, or perhaps they might instead find hidden inspiration in the piece just by looking & gazing at it.

There are different hidden linings to be found for everyone, and just because there is a lot of dark coloring does not necessarily mean it would evoke negative feelings either. I think how the shapes are portrayed in this case is a great thing, as it allows everyone to admire the quality of the piece while having their own interpretation of what it is they're looking at, like clouds in the sky.

From a technical perspective its really incredible work, even if at first it seems a bit scatterbrained in the process of drawing everything up (at least to the viewer). But like I mentioned earlier, its like calculating something without actively having to calculate it. Sometimes doing things that way can flop hard, or it can turn out incredibly well. In this case it worked out quite awesomely and I can see how you have a great talent for doing these sorts of pieces.

Perhaps there could be a thing or two more you could have added that could make it seem either more personal or epic in scale, rather than leaving every bit of imagery for the viewer to decide. Or a different sense of direction with what you wanted to draw without changing the meaning behind it (the piece). Then again, not every piece of art has to tell a story or have hidden meaning behind it. With this one it works great as is, and its possible changing it in the ways I mentioned would have altered it in a way that has a negative impact on the art.

So I guess I can say in the future that its a great idea to add particular things that seem like a risk to you because you don't know how the audience or your fans will react, but it could end up being something truly special in what everyone else sees in it. Something that has a huge emotional impact and/or gives people major 'feels'. While this piece isn't perfect (well lets face it, no art could ever be 'perfect') it certainly stands well on its own for what it is. And even though this piece of art is years old from when I'm making this review I hope you take ideas similar to this and have them injected into future work of yours that have something the audience could identify with more so than with this work. Like something personal to you, or something personal to others like your fans and commissioners.

The night turns as I try to explain
Irresistible attraction and orbital plane
"or maybe it’s more like a moth to a flame? "
She brushes my face with her smile
"forget about stars for a while..."
As she melts...

A very beautifully ominous depiction of a compelling and haunting verse. Very Deep...that's where you feel it. I love it!

Nice. I love the darkness, but the way it still stands out.

Very nice, it's so dirty and chaotic, for some reason it seems like tech art in a way...

Great stuff. :+fav:

Very nice execution. It's a shame there aren't more good "grunge"-style wallpapers. Good work.
